Apache Password Folders
This page allows you to easily generate .htaccess and .htpasswd files to password protect folders when using Apache and compatible web services.

To use this form, simply enter the username and password that you would like to access the protected folder with and then enter the full system path to the folder that you would like to password protect. This is the full path to the folder on the server, not the path relative to your web root, so it will look something like '/var/htdocs/images' rather than just '/images'.

Once you have generated the .htaccess and .htpasswd files (by hitting create below), copy them from this page into files with those names (including the dot at the start) and then upload them via FTP to the folder you are password protecting. So when you've finished you should find yourself with two extra files in your protected folder, one named '.htaccess' and one named '.htpasswd'.
